Poll data reveals what Canadian investors and advisors are thinking

To mark the company’s upcoming 50th anniversary, Mackenzie Financial Corporation (Mackenzie Investments) announced today the launch of 50 Insights that provide helpful information for financial advisors on what their clients are thinking. The 50 thought-provoking data points are built from an extensive survey of both advisors and investors sponsored by Mackenzie Investments and conducted by Environics Research as well as data from a study conducted by PMG Intelligence.

The insights include revelations such as 91% of Canadian investors expect their reliance on socially responsible investments to increase or stay the same in the next two to three years. Another learning is that 78% of investors say it is important for advisors to offer products and services from Canadian-owned asset management companies.

“As a firm that has operated in Canada for 50 years, we are always looking for insights that enable us to provide innovative investment solutions to help advisors and their clients succeed. These 50 new data points reinforced our perceptions and provide great learnings for advisors as they strive to deliver exceptional service to investors,” said Barry McInerney, President and Chief Executive Officer. “Mackenzie Investments is a high-quality, holistic asset management partner to advisors and we will always be there to support their needs.”

Conducted by Environics Research, the survey polled advisors and investors across Canada with a similar set of questions. By comparing the results, Mackenzie Investments has been able to develop proprietary insights into how well advisors and investors meet on key points about investing, portfolios and advisory relationships. Results are now available at a new microsite housed on the Mackenzie Investments home page at www.50-insights.com.

Some of the key insights include:

  •  72% of Canadian investors said it is important for asset management companies to have unique expertise in global investing.
  • 53% of advisors expect clients to increase their international investments over the next 2-3 years.
  • Women are more likely than men (35% vs. 27%) to refer their advisors to others.
  • 87% of advisors believe their clients fully disclose their current financial situation.
  • 33% of investors say they would like to have contact with their advisor monthly or more often via email.
  • 92% of advisors think sharing articles or other relevant information is important to investors. This compares to 68% of investors who said it is important for their advisors to share articles or other relevant information.

Data is based on:

  • Environics: A survey of 412 Canadian advisors that was completed online between June 20 and July 12, 2017 using Environics’ Advisor Research panel. A probability sample of the same size would yield a margin of error (MOE) of +/- 4.8%, 19 times out of 20.
