Position: Director – Data Collection, Coordination and Management


This position is responsible for leading an interdisciplinary team of programmers, analysts and project managers to execute a wide range of data collection activities to support the business needs of Environics Research.


The successful candidate will need to find creative solutions to unique research challenges. This could mean anything from figuring out how to capture high-quality A/V while filming a focus group in a busy restaurant in Halifax, to recruiting and coaching interviewers to mystery shop minor hockey registration in Burnaby. Outside-the-box thinking and resourcefulness will be part of your everyday activities.

Essential Job Functions

  • Coordinate the execution of qualitative and quantitative data collection projects to meet the needs of our clients.
  • Develop and implement creative solutions to unique research challenges.
  • Collaborate with client services teams to implement best practices for data collection and management to ensure research is delivered to evolving industry standards.
  • Lead and motivate a high-performing team.

The Team

The Digital Services team supports the data collection, management and analysis functions of Environics’ client services practice areas. We help solve real client problems by implementing creative strategies to recruit and interview customers and stakeholders across a range of industry verticals, such as financial services, health and wellness, travel and tourism, retail services and many others. However, the evolving nature of our business also necessitates that we investigate and collect data from new information sources, such as social media, web analytics and mobile. Our team sits at the intersection between traditional and emerging market research methods, and is responsible for connecting the dots between disparate sources of information to provide our clients with a comprehensive view of their environment.


  • Eight or more years’ experience in market research, marketing activation, or marketing operations wherein the primary responsibilities include project management and/or data processing activities.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing/Advertising, Math/Statistics, Computer Science, Business Administration or related discipline
  • Experience working with data collection and management tools such as Decipher, Confirmit, SPSS, Ascribe, Wincross, R and Tableau.
  • CMRP designation would be considered an asset.
  • A post-secondary degree, preferably in business, marketing, or social science
  • Post-graduate certification or training in a marketing research or analyst program, the MRIA’s CMRP courses, or similar undergraduate/graduate training


  • Very well organized and can manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously and employ exceptional time management and organizational skills
  • A resourceful and creative thinker who is able to solve problems for which no “template” exists
  • A professional communicator with strong written, oral and presentation skillsTechnically adept with a wide range of business software (MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and able to conduct intermediate statistical analyses in SPSS, R, etc. (e.g. frequencies, crosstabs, apply weights, etc.)
  • A leader who can motivate and manage an interdisciplinary team to deliver on time and on budget.


  • Become familiar with the data environment at Environics Research and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Solve a difficult problem that you never imagined you would encounter. And enjoy every minute of it.


  • Develop updated documentation on research standards and best practices.
  • Promote a creative solution to a data collection problem you uncovered within the organization to drive greater adoption of that methodology or tool.
