With the research we produced, EQ Bank launched Stnce, a multi-faceted platform aimed at increasing women’s confidence towards financial issues

Last week, my colleague Natalia Kolodenko and I attended the Stnce launch event. EQ Bank sponsored the Stnce program to increase women’s confidence regarding financial issues. Why specifically women? And why do they need to increase their confidence?

The story goes back to last fall, when EQ Bank asked Environics Research to design a research study to understand the financial literacy of Canadian women. The results show that lack of confidence is much more of an issue than any lack of knowledge. With the research we produced, EQ Bank launched Stnce, a multi-faceted platform aimed at increasing women’s confidence regarding financial issues.

Last night was the official launch of Stnce, a sold-out event that demonstrated just how important this topic is. The evening started with opening remarks by EQ Bank Vice President Kim Kukulowicz, who talked about EQ Bank’s journey and the motivations to launch this program. The event was followed by a lively discussion with various featured advisors and financial influencers: Desirae Odjick (Half Banked), Rubina Ahmed-Haq (Always Save Money), Jessica Moorhouse (Mo’ Money Podcast) and Kristen Wood (The Ten Spot). Finally, we heard from the night’s keynote speaker, Michele Romanow, a tech entrepreneur and CBC Dragon who gave an inspirational story about her business journey. Hearing each of these speakers was very encouraging for everyone, but my favourite part of the evening was having the opportunity to interact with like-minded women. There were lots of interesting conversations and stories about managing personal finances – a topic that is often on our minds, but rarely brought up. Just by being there, I could feel the passion and supportive energy of the crowd, and more importantly, how much we have all been waiting for this initiative!

We are very happy that the program launched successfully and that we were able to be a part of this project. I want to congratulate EQ Bank and the Stnce initiative, and I can’t wait to see the continued success of future events like this one to help increase women’s financial confidence!
